Windows 10 Preview Breaks Win+Y Shortcut

Update: This has been resolved in Windows 10 Build 10162

For anyone that is a heavy user of Lync/ Skype For Business, especially for voice calls. The “Win+Y” shortcut is one of the best keyboard shortcuts you can know. For those that aren’t aware, pressing “Win+Y” from anywhere in Windows whilst Lync / Skype4B is running will snap Lync into the foreground and place the cursor into the search box.

This is a great function if you want to quickly look up a contact, or like I do, dial phone numbers. You simply press “Win+Y” type the number and press enter.

Your cursor pops up here, great for quick searches

However Windows 10 Build 10074 appears to break this hot key functionality of Skype For Business and Lync 2013 (I haven’t tested on 2010)

If the Lync window has focus, Win+Y will behave as expected, however without focus the app it neither switched to and the cursor does not move.

This would be a killer for users using Lync2013 or S4B with Enterprise Voice as users are taught to press Win+Y to dial a number from their Lync/S4B client where ever they are in Windows.

Tested working on Win 8.1 with S4B build 15.0.4711.1002 32bit in both Lync2013 mode and S4B mode

Test fails on Win 10 10074 with S4B build 15.0.4711.1002 32bit in both Lync2013 mode and S4B mode

I’ve submitted this as part of the preview feedback. Please, if your part of the Windows insider program jump into the Windows Feedback app and vote for a “Me Too”.

Search for Lync under “Input and Interaction Methods > All other issues”

Let’s hope this gets fixed before Windows 10 launches later this year.
